About

Philosophy of care

Taking care of women is a privilege. Since they are usually the backbone of their family and put everyone else's needs first, it's my job to put them first. Women were made to bring life into the world, and I get to be there to support and bear witness to that. As a women's health nurse practitioner, I also love seeing women in the office and providing care before, during and after childbirth. Later, having patients return year after year is the best compliment. Every pregnancy and birth is different, and that's why I love what I do. I also have a special interest in preventing birth trauma and ending the stigma behind mental health and postpartum depression.

Why I entered medicine

I became a nurse after working as an EMT in high school. I loved the intensity in the emergency room and found that labor and delivery was the same way. I was in my junior year at Bloomsburg University working on my BSN when 9/11 happened. I figured I could be a nurse anywhere, so why not serve my country? I joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed at the National Naval Medical Center in Maryland, shaping not only my career but also my life; taking care of injured soldiers returning from war was the hardest thing I've ever done. I always had a love for women's health, so after several years of working med-surg, I got a master’s degree and transferred to labor and delivery.

Community involvement

I am actively involved in all four of my children's schools and participate in their Parent Teacher Organizations as well as local fundraisers. My husband often coaches our kids’ sports, which means I'm often behind the snack stand at soccer, baseball, softball or gymnastics events.

Personal interests

My family and I love camping and we just got an RV. We have a new puppy and enjoy going to Cape May, N.J. We spend most of our summer by the pool. I am trying to learn to be a better cook and have recently taken up nutrition classes.
