About

Philosophy of care

I help patients navigate today’s complex health care system, recognizing the impact family, friends and community have on their decisions. I emphasize collaborative decision-making, ensuring patients recognize their role in their own care. I explain the rationale behind prescribed treatments and lifestyle changes. My approach fosters patient engagement and encourages participation in their health and wellness journey.

Why I entered medicine

My journey into medicine began after I got a doctorate in psychology and spent five years teaching at the college level. Despite the fulfillment I found in academia, I yearned for a career making a more tangible impact on society, so I pursued medicine. Growing up in Kenya, I witnessed the devastating effects of inadequate health care, particularly on the underprivileged, and wanted to directly influence and improve people's lives. By combining my background in psychology with my medical training, I offer a unique, empathetic approach to patient care. Through family medicine, I am giving back to the community and making a meaningful difference in the world, one patient at a time.

Community involvement

I am involved in research and sit on the editorial board of the Scholarly Society of America Journal of Medicine.

Personal interests

In my free time I enjoy golfing, traveling, writing, reading and soccer.
