About

Philosophy of care

I feel strongly that patients and providers should be partners. I always tell my patients that it’s my job to make recommendations regarding their care and treatment, but the decision to implement those recommendations is ultimately up to them. Our relationship has to be based on mutual trust. Without that, the patient-provider partnership doesn’t work.

Why I entered medicine

I knew from a young age that I wanted to work with people, and I loved biology and anatomy. I contemplated medical school, but then I found out about the physician assistant profession. The flexibility of being a PA has allowed me to practice in many diverse fields throughout my 20+-year career – everything from family medicine, occupational medicine and neurology to emergency medicine, hospital medicine, and urgent care. These vast experiences have introduced me to all kinds of patients with a wide variety of medical needs – invaluable knowledge for my current position in family medicine.

Community involvement

I have three children who are all involved in sports, so that’s where most of my volunteer energy goes. Currently, my focus is on fundraising for my son’s high school football booster club to make sure his team has all the equipment and supplies it needs. I love the camaraderie with the other football parents, plus I like knowing I’m making my son’s experience the best it can be. My oldest daughter plays soccer in college now so I’m not as involved with her athletics, but my youngest daughter is on her middle school basketball and softball teams. Once she hits high school I’ll be fundraising for her as well.

Personal interests

When I’m not working, my husband and I are usually at a sporting event for one of our kids. Call me a soccer, football, basketball, cheer and softball mom all in one! No doubt they get some of their athletic interest from me. I played volleyball and was a soccer goalie in high school, and kept statistics for my college volleyball team at Penn State. I remain a proud Penn Stater, and love Penn State volleyball and football. My competitive sports days may be over, but I stay fit through indoor cycling (spin) classes and going on long walks with my dog.
