Philosophy of care

Where much is given, much is expected − and I’ve been given a skill set few people have, so I use it to help people in the most selfless way possible. I start by being the best listener I can be to my patients. I also do my best to help patients understand, so they gain confidence that I can help them get well. Next, I treat everyone as if they are a member of my family. Finally, I often tell patients and their families medicine is a team sport. The individuals who clean the operating room and those who assist me during surgery are just as important as I am. If they don't do what they do, I cannot do what I do.

Why I entered medicine

I believe medicine called me. I truly feel this is what I was placed on Earth to do. Every day is a humbling opportunity to gain the profound trust of a patient and their loved ones, sometimes literally with their lives in my hands with God's guidance to alleviate their pain and fix their ailments.

Community involvement

I have had several opportunities to travel the world to provide humanitarian health care aid, sometimes after natural disasters and in other cases to regions with an overwhelming deficiency of care. I have helped in areas such as Nepal during the most recent earthquakes, India, Trinidad and others.

Personal interests

Outside of work my heart is all in on raising my two boys. They are the reason my feet hit the floor every morning and the reason I think I'm getting more gray hair. We are also blessed to have a four-legged child with a tail who makes us smile every day. I enjoy being outside, hiking and traveling. I also find stress relief in yoga, running and woodworking.
