Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship FAQs

Frequently asked questions include:

Can I fast-track into a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship?

Yes, we permit and support residents interested in child and adolescent psychiatry. In fact, Lehigh Valley Health Network has a Psychiatry Residency, and we would love for you to stay on board with us to complete your training.

Can I moonlight?

Fellows in good academic standing have opportunities for internal moonlighting at our Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH)–Pocono and LVH–Schuylkill locations. Fellows also are able to pursue external moonlighting opportunities which need to be approved by program leadership.

Will I be exposed to therapy during training?

During PGY-1, fellows will be exposed to family interventions and group therapy sessions on the inpatient psychiatry unit and at partial hospitalization. In PGY-2, fellows have the opportunity to co-lead groups in the behavioral health and ambulatory programs. PGY-2 will have a robust therapy curriculum focusing on various therapy modalities. During their continuity clinic, PGY-2 fellows carry approximately four individual-therapy patients and two family-therapy patients. Fellows meet with a psychologist weekly for their psychodynamic therapy supervision to review patients. Fellows also will meet monthly for process groups and will have an opportunity to review patients during biweekly supervision with the program director.

How do you support resident wellness outside of work hours?

Our program holds semiannual faculty retreats and provides an annual wellness stipend. Fellows can use the stipend on wellness activities that they organize as a collective group among themselves or with fellow residents in the department and facilitate on their own outside of work.

Do you sponsor visas for international medical graduates (IMGs)?

J-1 and H-1B visa sponsorships will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Is clinical or research experience in the United States required to apply?

We do not require clinical or research experience, however this sort of experience will help strengthen an application.
