At Lehigh Valley Heart and Vascular Institute, you have a partner willing and capable of taking on the toughest cardiovascular challenges. Our team of heart and vascular specialists works collaboratively to share expertise and develop the best care plan based on your unique medical condition and personal preferences. More people in the region trust the Heart and Vascular Institute with their cardiovascular care than any of our competitors, according to the Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council.
When you are faced with a heart emergency, Lehigh Valley Heart and Vascular Institute has the most experienced cardiologists and cardiac surgeons in the region. Our experienced clinicians have helped thousands of people survive heart attack – we consistently rank among the best in the nation for heart attack survival.
Many of our heart specialists have trained at the nation’s top heart programs. Our heart (cardiac) surgeons and lung (thoracic) surgeons are all board-certified, many having served fellowships or received additional training with leading programs. Interventional cardiology specialists at the Heart and Vascular Institute are experts at performing minimally invasive procedures, such as angioplasty or stent placement. For patients with heart rhythm irregularities, such as atrial fibrillation (Afib), the Heart and Vascular Institute’s electrophysiologists have the expertise and tools to precisely identify the location of the electrical abnormality and treat it.
We bring together advanced technology and groundbreaking research to care for patients with complex cases of heart disease that many hospitals turn away. You only find this level of clinical expertise at the country’s top medical centers.
Choosing the right physician, whether it be for routine cardiac care or heart, lung or vascular surgery, can be a life-changing decision. If you’re uncertain about what to do, our experts can review your test results, discuss treatments and provide a second opinion.
Heart failure makes it hard for your heart to pump blood. We have the region’s largest team of board-certified heart failure specialists and offer the latest heart support devices and provide care for patients with complex heart problems.
Heart rhythm problems, or arrhythmias, are caused by electrical issues in the heart. Your heart may beat too fast, too slow or erratically. Our heart rhythm experts use advanced heart mapping systems and the latest treatments, like Micra™, the world's smallest pacemaker, to get your heart back in sync.
Structural heart disease refers to defects or abnormalities in the heart’s valves, wall or chambers. Heart defects may be present at birth (congenital) or develop over time. Our experts are the most experienced in the region using minimally invasive, catheter-based procedures to treat heart defects.
Our heart and vascular specialists provide care for a broad spectrum of vascular disease conditions, including peripheral artery disease, abdominal aortic aneurysm and carotid artery disease, as well as treatment for varicose and spider veins.
Women have unique heart disease risk factors. Our cardiologists assess your risk early and develop a care plan that keeps your heart healthy during young adulthood, pregnancy, menopause and beyond.
LVHN was the region’s first to perform Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) and is recognized as a center for performing complex mitral valve repair surgery. We lead the region in the life-saving technology known as ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) and have specialized programs in women’s heart health, sports cardiology, advanced heart failure technologies, peripheral vascular and venous care and rhythm disturbance care.
At Lehigh Valley Heart and Vascular Institute, we perform a large number of TAVR procedures every year. That’s experience and expertise you can trust. We’ve performed nearly 1,300 TAVR procedures since the procedure was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2011.
We lead the region in the life-saving technology known as extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Your team of heart specialists works to minimize symptoms and prevent further heart damage. Depending on your condition, you may benefit from a support device like ECMO. This machine pumps blood outside of your body, adds oxygen to it and returns it to your body.
The world’s smallest heart pump provides short-term support for up to seven days. It’s inserted via a catheter (thin hollow tube) in your femoral artery (main arterial supply in the leg). This device helps people who are experiencing cardiogenic shock, which occurs when your heart suddenly can’t pump enough blood to your organs. Impella can also support a patient’s heart during procedures that otherwise might be too risky.
Through Centro del Corazón, our Hispanic Heart Program, we’re focused on you and your heart, including preventive heart care, as a key to good heart health.
Even the fittest athlete can have an undetected heart problem. Without diagnosis and treatment, certain conditions can be life-threatening. Lehigh Valley Heart and Vascular Institute sports cardiologists expertly diagnose and treat heart disorders in recreational and competitive athletes.
Philanthropic gifts continue our mission to provide better care at a better cost for all that walk through our doors.
