- Division of Cardiovascular Disease Information
Cardiovascular Disease fellows will gain experience and training from 37 cardiology faculty members. Our faculty spans all cardiac subspecialties, including clinical and consultative cardiology, cardiac imaging, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, advanced heart failure, peripheral vascular disease, and advanced cardiac imaging. As a large referral center, fellows will gain valuable experience in managing the full spectrum of cardiovascular disease – from “bread and butter” cardiology to advanced forms of cardiogenic shock requiring mechanical circulatory. Fellows will also gain extensive experience in caring for patients with structural heart disease, devices and complex arrhythmia ablation, cardiac surgical perioperative care, and complex percutaneous coronary interventions.
Fellows will gain exposure to cutting edge initiatives and collaborations including :
- Preventive cardiology and advanced lipid management
- Cardio-obstetrics (Pregnancy and heart disease)
- Cardio-oncology
- Cardio-neurology (cryptogenic stroke management, PFO closure, left atrial appendage occluders).
- Cardio-endocrinology (collaborative management of cardiovascular disease in diabetic patients)
- Advance heart failure including mechanical circulatory support and destination ventricular assist device (LVAD)
The program is contained within the Lehigh Valley Heart and Vascular Institute at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Cedar Crest. For fiscal year 2015 (July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015) LVHN accommodated:
- more than 2,476 diagnostic coronary catheterizations
- 1,496 electrophysiology procedures
- 984 open heart surgeries
- 30,357 echocardiographic (2-D echo, stress echo and TEE) procedures
- 108,455 electrocardiograms and
- 6,043 nuclear and pharmacological stress tests.
There is a strong research tradition, with many active research protocols within the Lehigh Valley Heart and Vascular Institute.
