Welcome to Lehigh Valley Health Network’s Internal Medicine Residency Program!
Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) is a multi-campus health network located in the eastern part of Pennsylvania. We are one of the largest healthcare networks in the Commonwealth and serve the healthcare needs of a very diverse population throughout the greater Lehigh Valley and beyond. The patients we serve come from our urban centers located in Allentown, Easton and Bethlehem as well as the surrounding suburbs. Our reach also extends into more rural parts of our region, with northern campuses in the Poconos, Hazelton and Schuylkill County.
Our flagship campus is Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest. It houses over 850 beds and is located in Allentown, Pennsylvania. We are a major referral site for regional community hospitals and are leaned upon heavily for our specialty care. Modern facilities and state-of-the-art equipment underscore the hospital's priority towards offering the best environment in which to learn, work and provide medical care. This campus hosts our internal medicine residency program, our fellowship programs and most of our graduate medical education programs. We are also a clinical campus for the University of South Florida (USF Health) Morsani College of Medicine.
We have a national reputation for quality and patient safety. For seven straight years we have been recognized as the Lehigh Valley’s Number 1 regional hospital by US News & World Report’s Best Hospital list. We have also been recognized nationally among America’s Best Hospitals in various medical specialties 23 times since 1996.
Our physicians and health care professionals treat patients whose illnesses range from the simple to the most complex. The patient mix provides an ideal clinical environment for your education. Our faculty are committed to providing our residents with the teaching, training, mentoring and experience needed for a successful career in internal medicine. Our program offers comprehensive and progressive training, so you can develop the knowledge, attitude and skills you need to achieve excellence.
We offer a three-year Internal Medicine (IM) program with 16 positions offered each academic year. Our Department also sponsors a one-year Transitional Year Program with 14 positions offered each year. These programs work collaboratively to support the mission of medical education in our Department.
Additionally, LVHN offers eight fellowships opportunities through our Department:
Cardiovascular Disease
Endocrinology
Gastroenterology
Hematology-Oncology
Hospice and Palliative Medicine
Nephrology
Pulmonary Critical Care
Rheumatology
In many ways, our program merges the resources of a major academic medical center with advanced training opportunities in specialty care, with the benefits of a community hospital. Our faculty are approachable, dynamic educators who will challenge you to develop the work habits it takes to not simply become good physicians, but to become great ones. Our guiding principle is simple: we want to train you, with the intent on calling you a colleague someday. In this regard, the proof is in the numbers with nearly 25% of our graduates choosing to practice at LVHN along with their mentors upon finishing their training.
Choosing the hospital at which you apply for residency is an important decision. We encourage you to learn more about our program and contact us with any questions you may have. If you are interested in joining our team, we look forward to hearing from you!
